The B.A.T clinical team met Ms. Smith on January 27th, 2017, at their home located in San Bernardino, CA. On this date the clinical team conducted an indirect functional assessment, which consisted of a parent interview and a review of ABA services in relation to DeAndre. The clinical team gathered information regarding DeAndre's history (as outlined in the section above) and inquired about the challenges they encounter, including and behaviors that are of concern.

Mom reported a number of concerns in regards to DeAndre's overall development. Initially mom reported concerns with his communication. To illustrate, DeAndre has difficulty with the following: unclear speech, he mumbles, needs prompting to comply with one-step instructions, sitting

Namely, DeAndre smells everything, he engages in visual stims, and displays echolalia daily. Per mom, he engages in this behavior up to five times per day. DeAndre engages in these behaviors when he is bored and/or frustrated. Mom will usually allow him to engage in behavior or tell him to stop. In addition, DeAndre engages in tantrum behaviors in public. During a tantrum, DeAndre will throw himself on the floor, scream, kick items down, and drop to the ground. Mom reports that she will give him what he wants. Mom reported that he engages in these behaviors because, he likes the attention from other people and/or he wants a tangible item. Mom reports that tantrums can last up to two hours. Mom also reports, in public, DeAndre will elope. He will run off and hide in clothing racks and laugh as mom tries to locate him. As soon as mom locates him, he will say, “I'm sorry.” Finally, mom reports a DeAndre engages in aggressive behaviors. Namely, DeAndre will hit with a closed hand, bite, spit, and throws items. These behaviors tend to happen at daycare. As a result, the daycare staff will not let him go outside or ride a bike. This behavior occurs twice a
