Chlorophyll
A green pigment found in most plants, algae, and cyanobacteria (blue-green algae or bacteria).
Chloroplasts
Organelles found in plant cells and other eukaryotic organisms that conduct photosynthesis
Reductionism
The reduction of complex systems to simpler components that are more manageable to study.
The Power and Limitations of Reductionism
(dilemma)
We cannot fully explain a higher level of order by breaking it down into its parts. Yet, something as coplex as an organism or a cell cannot be analyzed without taking it apart.
emergent properties
New properties that arise with each step upward in the hierarchy of life, due to the arrangement and interactions of parts as complexity increases.
Heat is a mode of motion that is synonymous to energy.
2 objects of different size with the same temperature has different heat energy. Heat depends on volume. The greater the volume, the greater the heat or total kinetic energy.
Does distilled water contain salt?
To distill water is to heat it to the point that it boils. Water vapor will rise and condensed to go into a separate container to collect.

Through this boiling and recollecting process, the water should be free of impurities such as salt.
what are plastids?
any of various cytoplasmic organelles (as an amyloplast or chloroplast) of photosynthetic cells that serve in many cases as centers of special metabolic activities.
