Data |
A collection of facts, such as numbers, words, measurements, observations or even just descriptions of things. |
Graph |
A graph can be defined as a pictorial representation or a diagram that represents data or values in an organized manner. The points on the graph often represent the relationship between two or more things. |
Bar graph |
A bar graph can be defined as a chart or a graphical representation of data, quantities or numbers using bars or strips. Bar graphs are used to compare and contrast numbers, frequencies or other measures of distinct categories of data. |
Mean |
The mean is the average of a set of numbers. To find the mean of a data set, add up all of the numbers in the set, and then divide that total by the number of numbers in the set. |
Mode |
The number which appears most often in a set of numbers. Example: in {6, 3, 9, 6, 6, 5, 9, 3} the Mode is 6 (it occurs most often). |
Median |
The "middle" of a sorted list of numbers. To find the Median, place the numbers in value order and find the middle number. |
Frequency distribution |
A frequency distribution table is a chart that summarizes values and their frequency. A frequency distribution table has two columns. The first column lists all the various outcomes that occur in the data, and the second column lists the frequency of each outcome. |
Tally Marks |
Tally marks, also called hash marks, are a unary numeral system. They are a form of numeral used for counting. They are most useful in counting or tallying ongoing results, such as the score in a game or sport, as no intermediate results need to be erased or discarded. |
Class interval/limit |
The range of values in a histogram is divided into sections, called class intervals. |
Class size |
Difference between the true upper limit and true lower limit of a class interval is called the Class Size. Class size remains the same for all class intervals. For the class interval 10 - 20. Class size is 10, i.e., (20 - 10 = 10). |
Class mark |
The average of the values of the class limits for a given class. A class mark is also called a mid-value or central value. |
Histogram |
A graphical display where the data is grouped into ranges, and then plotted as bars. ... (Similar to a Bar Graph, but in a Histogram each bar is for a range of data.). |
Pie chart |
A Pie Chart (or Pie Graph) is a special chart that uses "pie slices" to show relative sizes of data. The chart is divided into sectors, where each sector shows the relative size of each value. |
Probability |
Probability tells you the likelihood of an event happening. |
