what is the goal of cranial tx? how does it do this?
normalize structure (both position and motion) to optimize function by
1) increasing circulation by normalizing arterial, venous and lymphatic channels
2) normalizing CSF fluctuation
3) correcting cranial articular strains
4) releasing membranous tension
5) counteracting stress producing factors by normalizing fxn of the cerebrum, thalamus, hypothalamus and pit body
what is the definition of balanced membranous tension?
The point of balanced membranous tension is the point in the range of motion of an articulation where the membranes are poised between the normal tension present throughout the free range of motion and the increased tension preceding the strain which occurs as a joint is carried beyond its normal physiologic range.
what is the most common tx used of BMT? what is it?
exaggeration/indirect action--> increase the abnormal relationship at the joint by taking it slightly in the direction that it is strained.
when do you typically not use exaggeration/ indirect action BMT?
1) before sutural formation at 5-6
2) acute trauma when this may cause intracranial hemorrhage
what is the aim of direct action BMT?
getting towards your balance point

acute trauma w/ children, can also use w/ overriding sutures
