Instead of bleeding out my body began to slow down the flow of the blood to my palm. After much research I realized that my body was healing itself through the production of platelets. The body’s natural ability to heal astonished me greatly. This further led me into the field of osteopathic medicine, which accentuates the body’s natural ability to heal, repair, and self-regulate, rather than depending on medication. In the field of osteopathic medicine, physicians constantly implement this principle through various hand techniques to ensure proper flow of blood, lymphatic fluids and cerebral spinal fluids. I witnessed close family members travel to more industrialized parts of the city or even travel to different countries just to receive the quality health care they deserved; however, as a consequence of traveling with an illness, their health deteriorated even further. As a prospective student in health care, it is disheartening to witness physicians and peers discuss the possibilities of practicing medicine in more developed parts of cities while neglecting the underserved
