Tamoxifen vs. Raloxifene

- tamoxifen = antagonist at breast, agonist at endometrial and bone

- raloxifene = antagonist at breast and vaginal tissue, agonist at bone


- both have increased risk of clotting, tamoxifen has increased risk of endometrial cancer and uterine sarcoma

Erb's Palsy

- Candida: thick discharge with vaginal inflammation, normal pH, pseudohyphae

- sudden loss of E2 and progesterone = increased prolactin


- prolactin = milk production, oxytocin = milk let down



condyloma acuminatum vs latum

- HPV = condyloma acuminatum, cleared with chloroacetic acid


- syphillis = condyloma latum, in secondary syphilis -> flat, velvety lesions

Contraindications to Breastfeeding

- active untreated TB, may breastfeed 2 wk after tx


- maternal HIV


- herpetic breast lesions


- varicella


- chemotherapy


- substance abuse


- infant galactosemia

Chorioamnionitis or intramniotic infection

- prolonged rupture of membranes, > 18 hr btw ROM and birth


- maternal fever, uterine tenderness, maternal or fetal tachycardia,


- Tx: expedited deliver, maternal culture, broad spectrum abx (amp, gent, clinda)

- pruritus, dyspareunia, dysuria, white atrophic paper-like skin, obliteration of labia minora, decreased size of introitus


- increased risk for vulvar squamous cell carcinoma -> punch biopsy
