What are some of the formal barriers to suffrage that have existed in American politics over the years to prevent the poor, women, and racial minorities from exercising their right to vote? What specifically were the remedies that increase the right to vote for American citizens?

Women didn't have the right to vote until the nineteenth amendment was passed. As legislatures throughout the south passed the Jim crow laws, and naacp was founded to press for equal rights for African american. Affirmative action, a policy designed to remedy education, and employment discrimination continues to generate controversy.

List and explain the types of committees within congress. What are the advantages of being a part of a committee, and how do you become a member?

Standing. Bills sent to standing committee for consideration. The bills are sent from one congress to the next and work side by side. This committee is the eyes, ears, and hands of the house which plays a major role in the law making process. The standing committee can kill bills, amend them, or hurry them through the process.

Joint committee are standing committee from both houses of Congress to set up to conduct investigations or special studies. They focus on major matters such as economy, taxation, or scandals.

Conference are special joint committee created to reconcile differences in bills passes by the house and senate. Iron out the differences between the two versions before final approval, which is returned to each chamber for final vote. No changes can be made to this bill.
