- apply handbrake when directed by the driver - complete log book - sweep floor and remove rubbish - ensure loco equipment is in its proper place - remove any other equipment - close windows and lock doors - place loco equipment with OIC |

How are locomotives normally shut down? |
- push the stop button - open the battery knife switch to conserve battery power - switch off all low voltage equipment - record engine shutdown time in log book |

How is the battery protected when the locomotive is stabled and shut down? |
To conserve battery power, the battery knife switch must be opened when stabled. All low voltage equipment such as lights, heaters, hot plates, radios etc must be switched off. Shutdown time must be entered into the log book. |
