“Diesel service technicians and mechanics inspect,repair,or overhaul anything with a diesel engine” (“U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics”). Diesel mechanics have to follow inspection lists to check for potential failures, test drive or run a vehicle or machine to diagnose a possible malfunction, also they are required to keep themselves and work area clean and safe. “A diesel mechanic is a person who repairs diesel machines and keeps them running properly” (“Merriam-Webster”). In researching the career of a diesel mechanic I have found the career requirements and qualifications,working conditions and salary, what a typical day is like, future needs, my interest, and I constructed a personal interview with someone in this field.

Nearly every day is guaranteed to require you to test equipment to ensure that is functioning properly, clean things like parts and equipment to keep things in the proper shape, lubricate things so that they are sure to operate accordingly, repair things that have become defective, and replace or fix inoperable parts. The best part of the day would be quick jobs you’ve done before and know what tools you will need and exactly how it needs to be done. Most diesel mechanics are full time workers and have regular 8-10 hour day. Diesel mechanics are continually using their hands to control and move things such as objects or control levers. Diesel mechanics are often times required to wear safety equipment like safety glasses, hard hats, and ear plugs.
