What is the purpose or intention of a PSO?

A PSO is used when you believe it is necessary to take action to ensure the safety of a person at risk and there is insufficient evidence to make an arrest.

The potential or likely victim.

No, this way they cannot be blamed for the actions of police.

Who can issue a PSO?

Any Constable may issue one, but before the PSO can be issued, it has to be authorised by a qualified Constable who is at the rank of Sergeant or higher.

If you attend a domestic episode, can a PSO be issued against a person that has been arrested for family violence?

No. You can however ask for bail conditions similar to the conditions of a PSO.

Can the person being issued a PSO be detained?

Yes. For no longer than 2 hours. They can be detained at the place where the incident has taken place or be transported to a police station.

When issuing a PSO, what four things MUST you do?
