Payed taxes; 97 percent of the population

Bourgeoisie: middle class, bankers, factory owners, etc.

The workers: formed the second and poorest group within the third estate.

Peasants: largest group within the third estate. More than 80 percent of France's population. About half of their income was give to nobles, to the church as tithing, and as taxes to the kings agents.
