Who are the Slamecksan?

What historical reference do they serve- what/who do they represent?

Who are the Tramecksan?
The Slamecksan are the low heels in Lilliput and represent the Whigs in England

The Tramecksan are the high heels and represent the Tories in England

King Gorge the 1st was the king of England at the time and he was a Whig

Swift was a Tory (he was not happy with the political situation in England at the time) - he was fine with the government before George the 1st (who was pro Whig) became king in 1714

Flimnap is the Lord Tresurer of Lilliput & hated Gulliver ever since he first arrived in Lilliput
He accused Gulliver on having an affair w/ his wife and was afraid that Gulliver would eat all of their food, leaving them to starve

Who is Skyresh Bogolum?
Skyresh Bogolum is in the navy and was a (High admiral of Lilliput) & shows hostility to Gulliver
-is the only member of the administration to oppose Gulliver’s liberation. Gulliver imagines that Skyresh’s enmity is simply personal, though there is no apparent reason for such hostility. Arguably, Skyresh’s hostility may be merely a tool to divert Gulliver from the larger system of Lilliputian exploitation to which he is subjected.
What are the The rope dances?
The rope dances are a way in which citizens participate in to get a job/position makes fun of the way English people got their jobs at the port (being friends w/ the Emperor etc.)
-Rope-Dancers are Lilliputians seeking employment in the government. For the performance, which doubles as a sort of competitive entrance examination, the candidates dance on “ropes”—slender threads suspended two feet above the ground. When a vacancy occurs, candidates petition the emperor to entertain him with a dance, and whoever jumps the highest earns the office. The current ministers continue this practice as well, in order to show that they have not lost their skill.
What was the rival island of Lilliput? Who does this historically represent?
Blefescu and it represents England's Rivalry (France)
What does Gulliver build with his handkerchief?
Gulliver builds a platform from sticks and his handkerchief and invites horsemen to exercise upon it. The emperor greatly enjoys watching this new entertainment, but it is cut short when a horse steps through the handkerchief, after which Gulliver decides that it is too dangerous for them to keep riding on the cloth.
Social Traditions/Customs of Lilliput:
The dead are buried with their heads pointing directly downward, because the Lilliputians believe that eventually the dead will rise again and that the Earth, which they think is flat, will turn upside down. Gulliver adds that the better-educated Lilliputians no longer believe in this custom.

Anyone who falsely accuses someone else of a crime against the state is put to death. Deceit is considered worse than theft, because honest people are more vulnerable to liars than to thieves, since commerce requires people to trust one another. The law provides not only for punishment but also for rewards of special titles and privileges for good behavior.

Children are raised not by individual parents but by the kingdom as a whole. They are sent to live in schools at a very young age. The schools are chosen according to the station of their parents, whom they see only twice a year. Only the laborers’ children stay home, since their job is to farm. There are no beggars at all, since the poor are well looked after.

Gulliver urinated on the palace & planed to leave Lilliput with out "official consent"
What are the 8 rules Gulliver must follow for his freedom?
1. He can't leave Lilliput without official consent
2. He can't come into the main city without the Emperor's permission and a 2hrs notice
3. He must only walk on main roads and can't lie down in any meadows or fields
4, He can't step on anyone or pick them up with out their permission
5. Once a month, he has to carry the messanger and his horse to its destination and back again to deliver urgen messages
6. He must defend Lilliput agains their enemy (Blefuscu)
7. He must help workmen pick up stones to build walls&royal buildings
8. In two months time, he has to give the Emperor calculations of the size of the island
