What are the British standards for hydrants? |
65mm round thread outlet. Min water flow 2000 litres per min at 1.7 bar of pressure. Anti clockwise opening. |
|
Leak detection device magnetic. |
Can be safely removed for hydrant to be used and tested. |
|
Leak detection device screw on. |
Needs hydrant outlet to function. Should not be removed for a test. However in operational use it can be removed. The water authority should be notified on return to the station. |

Care of hoses 4 |
Ramped when going across a road. Not made up when frozen. Under run and cleaned before stowage. Not be kinked under pressure. |
|
What makes a good hose? |
Reliable to use. Resistant to leakage, bursting and kinking. Resistant to abrasion should be durable. Resistant to pressure changes and shock. Should not excessively stretch when pressurised 5% in length 10% in diameter. Should have smooth internal surface to limit frictional loss. Light and easy to handle. Able to made up wet and dry. |
