Euphio; From the way the story ends, predict how the FCC will rule
In favor of Lewis Harrison. The narrator suddenly changes his mind at the end of the speech; implying that Lew just turned on the Euphio machine. "And good old Lew Harrison is the salt of the earth, believe me. I sure wish him a lot of good luck with his new enterprise."
Euphio: Is the narrator right in fighting against the euphio machine, even though there is a clock to control it?
The narrator is right, because the "guinnea pigs" were still very much harmed in such a short period of time. Chaos still erupted
Euphio: Is Lew Harrison an "unscrupulous" person?
Yes. He sees the chaos that occurs when the machine is still on. It is by chance that they are all still alive. However, he still wants to sell the device for worldly gain.
Euphio: Is this story warning us of the future or the present?
Of the future- accept the life we have and be happy with it. There's no need to artificialize everything, as human nature is.
Land: Based on the conversation between Pahom's sisters, what can we predict the parable will address?
The conversation argues between being happy as a peasant. On one hand, one could live large and actually live life with joy. On the other, you could be "safe" and stay in a predictable place. We can predict that the parable will address happiness with worldly possessions and being happy with what is currently owned.
Do you sympathize with Pahom? Why?
I sympathize with Pahom. It is easy to be overcome by the strong hand of greed, and obviously the huge area of land that could potentially be his would appeal to his id. Many people would have done the same thing.
