Atom

Smallest particle of an element

Dalton's Atomic Theory

Elements are composed of atoms. Atoms of the same element are identical. Atoms of different elements can mix physically or chemically. Chemical reaction occurs when aroms are seperated, joined, or rearranged

Electrons

Negatively charged subatomic particles

Cathode Ray

A glowing beam that travled from the cathode to the anode

Protons

Positively charged subatomic particles

Neutrons

No charged subatomic particles

Nucleus

The core of an atom, composed of protons and neutrons

Atomic Number

The number of protons of an element

Mass Number

The total number of protons and neutrons

Isotopes

Atoms with the same number of protons but different number of neutrons

Atomic Mass Unit (amu)

Is one of the twelfth of the mass of a carbon-12 atom

Atomic Mass

A weighted average mass of the atoms in a naturally occurring sample of an element

Periodic Table

An arrangement of all the elements, seperating them into their properties

Period

Horizontal row of the periodic table

Group

Vertical column of the periodic table
