africans arrived in the u.s. speaking many languages and following many cultural traditions. to survive, they had to learn a new language - English - and adopt a new way of life.

The changes affected slaves by them having to work hard everyday. The economy in the South was different than North because they worked on small farms. I think that the changes were bad because the South was different than the North.
