Where is the heart located?
In the middle mediastinum
What is the pulmonary circuit?
The R side of the circulatory system recieves deoxygenated blood and pumps it to the lungs
What is the systemic circuit?
The L side of the circulatory system recieves oxygenated blood and pumps it through the body
RIght Atrium-

What kind of blood does it recieve? From where?
Deoxygenated from the systemic circuit.

Superior/Inferior vena cava and coronary sinus
Right atrium-

Composition?
1/2 smooth walled, 1/2 pectinate muscles, separated by crista terminalis ridge

*right auricle projects externally
What/Where is the fossa ovalis?
In the right atrium, marks the spot wher ethe foramen ovale hole was in the fetal heart
What/Where is the Sinoatrial Node?
In the right atrium- sends electrical impulses to the AV node
What/Where is the atrioventicular node?
In the right atrium- recieves impulse from the SA node and transitmits them to the ventricles via the Bundle of His
What separates blood flow from the right atrium to the right ventricle?
The tricuspid valve
Left atrium-

What kind of blood does it recieve? From where?
Recieves oxygen rich blood from the lungs via the pulmonary veins
Left atrium-
Composition?
The Left auricle is lined with pectinate muscles, but the rest is smooth-walled
What separates the left atrium from the left ventricle?
The Mitral (bicuspid)valve
What does the right ventricle do?
Takes blood fromt he R atrium and pumps it into the pulmonary circuit via the pulmonary trunk (an artery)
What regulates blood flow from the right ventricle to the pulmonary trunk?
The pulmonary semilunar valve.
Right ventricle-
Composition?
Walls have ridges called trabeculae carnae.

cone-shaped paillary muscles
What are chordae tendinae?
In the R and L ventricles, these bands project from the papillary muscles to the tricuspid and bicuspid valves, respectively
What is the moderator band?
In the R ventricle, prvents the over dialation of ventricle
What does the Left ventricle do?
Takes blood fromt he L atrium and pumps it into systemic circulation via the AORTA
What regulates blood flow fromt he L ventricle into the aorta?
The aortic semilunar valve
Where is the cardiac skeleton and what does it do?
Supports the 4 valves, prevents impulses from passing from atria to ventricles
What arteries come from the ascending aorta?
The Right and Left coronary arteries
What arteries come from the Left Coronary artery?
The anterior interventricular and Circumflex arteries
What arteries come from the right coronary artery?
The right marginal and posterior interventricular arteries.
Whwere does gas (O2) exchange take place?
Between the alveoli of the lung and the pulmonary capillaries
What is the ligamentum arteriosum?
A remnant of the fetal ductus arteriosus. Connects the aortic arch and the pulmonary trunk.
What are the cardiac veins?
They take deoxygenated blood from the myocardium and drain it into the coronary sinus, which dumps it into the right atrium
What are the Thebesian veins (Least Cardiac Veins)?
Tiny veins that drain blood from the walls of the heart into all of the chambers
What is the aortic arch?
What arteries stem from it?
Where the ascending aorta curves.

-Brachiocephalic trunk
-Left common carotid artery
-Left Subclavian artery
What arises from the brachiocephalic trunk?
The right common carotid and right subclavian arteries
What are the divisions of the common carotid artery?
the external carotid artery (supllies neck and scalp) and internal carotid artery (supplies orbits and cerebrum)
Where do the vertebral arteries arise from?

What do they merge into?
Arises from the subclavian artery...

...merge into basilar artery and then splits...
What is the cerebral arterial circle (aka Circle of Willis)?
the internal carotid and vertebral arteries unite
Name the arteries of the Upper Limb
Subclavian->Vertebral->

-Axillary
-Brachial
-Radial
-Ulnar (common interosseous)
-Palmar Arches (deep and superficial)
Name the arteries of the Thorax
Descending aorta gives off the intercoastal arteries
Describe the L and R common Iliac arteries
Split the end of the aorta.

Internal IA supplies the pelvic organs

External IA becomes a femoral artery
What do genicular arteries do?
Form collateral circulation around the knee
Where does the femoral artery change to popliteal?
at the Hiatus of Adductor magnus muscle
What does the Popliteal artery divide into?
Anterior and posterial tibial arteries
