Manipulative activities are those that involve controlled use of the hands and feet. Such physical abilities as throwing, catching, grasping and dribbling are all manipulative activities. This type of movement aids children in developing fine-motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Allowing children to learn “how” and with what “effort” the body moves.
The third activity is Non-manipulative and is best described as movement of the body while staying in one place. Physical abilities such as twisting, turning, jumping and landing are all examples of Non-manipulative movement. This type of movement helps develop the child’s balance and coordination skills.
