A FAD weight loss diet is any diet that promises fast weight loss without a scientific basis. These diets often eliminate entire food groups and, as a result do not provide a wide range of important nutrients. Examples of FAD diets include the Paleo Diet and Weight Watchers. The Paleo diet requires dieters to return back to the early centuries of food staples including meat, fish, vegetables and fruit excluding dairy or cereal products and processed foods. After looking through different diet programs for this and performing analysis, comparing in requirements to the Recommended Daily Intake (RDI), it has come to show that numerous components that need to be reached, and do not reach the recommended amount. This, therefore, will be harmful to the growth of teenagers throughout this period making it not suitable for teenagers to participate within the Paleo Diet. After putting one days’ worth of food into food choices, which allows calculates specific daily intakes, out of the twelve tested, three reach the correct amount. However, there are three that do reach the recommended levels have been shown that there may be an overdose in one specific vitamin or mineral. The levels of 294%, 185% and 125%, Vitamin C, Total Vitamin A Equivalent and Niacin Equivalent respectively could result in sickness or illness which could be harmful to the body and could affect the health and wellbeing of the person. EER or Estimated Energy requirement are essential measurements to be used while eating, especially if you are dieting. An Estimated Energy requirement is a number of calories or kilojoule somebody need to eat for one day, in accordance with the age, gender, weight and height (NHMRC, 2005). The average 17-year-old female, 54 kg and a height of 162cm that participates in light sport of one to three times a week would average 8,000 KJ per day.
