Essay Selection #2 " A LOT YOU GOT TO HOLLER, by Nelson Algren, is about a boy named Augie ten year period life with his very abusive father. Augie is the main character in the story . At the age of eight ,Augie life starts to go downhill because his mom is thrown out his house by his abusive father, and he never sees her again. Augie starts to search for her ,but in the process of searching there are several things that happen to Augie. His abusive father would beat him almost every day because he dislike Augie or the old man felt Augie did something wrong. This effects his life because he starts to do bad things searching for his mother. Augie and his father's relationship is not wholesome at all. They were

Their relationship was to the point where they couldn't even stay in the same house without arguing it became violent and verbally offensive. When Augie stated he wasn't his old man , the old man became very mad and told ''Augie to get out".
Furthermore, from the age of sixteen Augie life started to go downhill because he started to get in trouble with the police do to his old man. The Old man told two cops that Augie was a runaway which led him to get arrested. His old man was trying to make his life miserable for putting him through so much and to teach him a lesson. "As time went by Augie thought to himself that everything that happen wasn't the old man fault but for some reason he just blamed everything on him". He has so much hate towards the old man he called him a roach. Finally, His old man told him to leave and Augie did, while he was packing his old man stood in the door and watch him pack then Augie left. In conclusion, Augie and his old man realtionship was not healthy at all. All they did was argue never set down and talked about their problems in the story. At the end of the story their relationship basically came to a end. Augie stated at the end of the story "You never cared where I lived," I told him," a lot got to holler where I
