We see in this passage how unstable the narrator is. One can observe in this story how women are identified as the embodiment of craziness. This is due to the narrator’s irrelevant obsession of the wall-paper, it reinforces one’s beliefs about women’s craziness. On the other hand, in this story men are described as intellectual and rational individuals, as we see in the story that the narrator’s husband is a physician of high standing. These two unequal representations of gender based on generalized opinions raise issues of inequality between men and women. Additionally, we perceive men in this story as dominant and authoritive figures: John says it is good for me, and to sleep all I can. From this passage, we see the narrator looking up to her husband and waiting for him to tell her what to do and what is good for her. This quote also shows us the insecurity the wife by her fear of acting without guidance from her husband. As a result, the constant stress on the wife reveals issues of inequality between men and
