Strategies and Tactics of the World Wars While strategies such as the Manstein Plan included a tactic called Blitzkrieg and popular during World War Two, Trench Warfare and the Schlieffen Plan were important strategies in World War One. These strategies were a major importance to the early victories in their respective wars. Trench warfare created a stalemate which would cause the war to last four years. The most wide-known strategy in World War One was trench warfare. Trench warfare used systems of trenches to protect armies against attacks from opposite sides. This plan was both offensive and defensive against France and Russia. The Germans understood the sheer number of the Russian armies and correctly adjusted the plan. Schlieffen’s plan was to disable the French and then focus directly on Russia to win the war as a sole victor. There was a major mistake in this plan. The strategy depended on an invasion of Belgium which ultimately brought England into the conflict. The plan would outflank the French armies and give them an easy victory. The Blitzkrieg tactic was the most used during World War Two. Blitzkrieg was a German tactic based on shock and disorganization of an enemy army. The power of the German army was speed. No other force had the same ability to move and mobilize during the time. Blitzkrieg has been used many times throughout history, but this time was different. The German war machine was on the brink of taking over the known world due to their successes in using Blitzkrieg. The German army tested this tactic in the Spanish Civil war. Poland took on the might of the perfected form of the German Blitzkrieg. Germany employed planes of many types in addition to the German advanced military technologies
