Stalin started a “Stalin Revolution”, making his country work at a very fast pace. Stalin said the Soviet Union was far behind other countries, and they had to be quick to make up lost time. He thought that if his country went about at a slower pace, they would fall even more behind the other countries. “No, we refuse to be beaten!” (Joseph Stalin: The Hard Line) said Stalin about how he could not be left behind, or be any worse than another country. He wanted to be the best, because he believed his country was the best and could be the best. In World War One, people had the thoughts of their country being better than everyone else, but without the work of power hungry dictators, things occurred differently. Many German soldiers said “Deutschland ueber alles” or “Germany above all else” (Georges Clemenceau: French Demands For Security and Revenge).
