It is a family that keeps their head above water. Different from A Raisin in the Sun, this family is white. The main character in this play is Willy Loman and he as well wants to live the American dream. He is a salesman that travels long and far for his job. Willy is married to Linda and had two boys. Happy, who still lives at home and Biff, who moved away. Biff is the oldest and it seemed that maybe his dad favored him more than his brother. He really wanted that boy to succeed in life. Biff was a star football player in high school but did not put forth the effort with school work and failed Math. He could have taken a summer course but did not and ended up not graduating and no college scholarship for football. About the time this was all happening, his caught his dad cheating and went a little crazy. From there he went to be a ranch hand and never looked back. And now this brings it to where Biff comes home for a visit to see that his dad is not well. Willy starts talking to himself and flashbacks begin of when the boys were younger and in school.
