The first principle is defined as the Risk Principle which focuses on who to target. According to an article written by Edward Latessa, is important to target the higher risk offenders in order to have an effective intervention, and that is by supervision and treatment. After the WHO is identify, the Need Principle comes to place identifying the WHAT, in other words what to target, targeting criminogenic needs; which are defined as risk factors that affect a person's risk for recidivism. Following, the Treatment Principle comes to places figuring out HOW they will use behavioral approaches treating everyone in an equal manner. By doing so they will provide cognitive behavioral interventions based on social learning principals. Lastly, the Fidelity Principle of HOW WELL they will implement their programs as designed. However, drug testing main purpose focuses on the short and long term effects that drug consumption can cause on individuals; since teens' brains and bodies are still developing and therefore vulnerable. According to the National Institute on Drug Use, the short term effects can mess with an individual’s decision making leading them to perform poorly in school, and even to overdose. If no action is taken, long term effects come to place. One serious problem that long term effects lead to is addition. When a teen is addicted to drugs, it gets to the point as to where the individual depends highly on the dug. Dependency on drugs causes serious problems; problems like mood changes, anxiety, and depression just to name a few (Abuse, N. I. 2017). In my opinion, drug testing in school is fantastic because it prevents individuals from consuming the drug, and for those that are already consuming it helps schools take action by helping the individual get help, and therefore prevent him/her to die from an overdose.
