1.) There are many reasons why youths may seek out gang involvement. Many gangs offer youth a sense of belonging, via acceptance and gang loyalty which was crucial in the videos. Gangs can provide an identity for their members and a way to acquire a status. This is an attribute to the Social Disorganization/ Sociocultural View according to the text. Using chapter 8 to help guide this point is, children with weak to no ties toward their families, community and or religion may channel their energy toward gangs for their substitute. The text would look at the above example as the Psychological View, which looks at the gang as an outlet for disturbed and troubled youth. Another element of gangs and other various groups are companionship and activities. Most of the gangs we see in the United States closely similate one another by their code or laws that each gang member is to abide by. In SGoC, at the heart of most gangs are love, honor, and respect. Other gangs will vary in beliefs, though a largly accepted belief is don 't mess with kids. Gangs generally are created in areas of poverty. These areas soon become infected with gang activity, that in turn aid in recruiting young children. This is due to their codes that give the youth a purpose. In both videos the use of graffiti and gang signs are directed toward certain gangs that have meaning and as a result can be used as call outs and warnings. In GiA this was expeanded on, a police department in Detroit has been taking photos and creating a document that is used to explain each symbol and gesture to keep the police activley involved. I thought the phrase "Infilitration leads to information" was rather clever and there was a lot of truth in
