One reason I think the court trail was unfair was Robinson’s hand. In the book it explains that when Tom was twelve years old, his hand got stuck in a cotton gin. He could no longer use his left hand after that incident. Mayella had been beaten during the accused rape, mostly on the right side of her face. It would be very hard to beat someone on their right side of their face with your left hand. Atticus proved in court that Robinson’s left hand is not usable buy throwing a ball at him and asking him to catch it. He caught the ball with his right hand. Atticus asked him to catch it with his left and said he couldn’t, and explained the cotton gin incident. The jury seemed to have ignored this piece of evidence while deciding the verdict, because if they did, it would have been very hard to say Robinson …show more content…
In the novella, Tom is described to be a very nice, kind hearted individual. His boss said in court that Tom had been working for him for a while now, and has never had a problem with him. Not one. Tom had helped out Mayella before for no charge and never tried anything with her. So why would all of a sudden he would rape her when she asked him to do something for her. Tom said that the reason he would help her free of charge is because he felt sorry for her. She has to live is a small home with a drunk father and seven other siblings, and she has no friends. You can tell that Mayella trusts Tom because she would invite him into her home knowing he would do what she asked. Also Tom knew the risks of entering a white persons house, but he did it anyway to help out
