Why Is Confidentiality Important In Counseling

In viewing the presentation it is discovered that confidentially may be broken under various circumstances. Although therapy is a confidential process that requires discussion of private information that the client entrust the counselor with, there are some exemptions to the rule. The presentation teaches us that any professional that has account of potential harm shall advise appropriate persons of potential harm that may be cased to persons seeking treatment or other parties. In the event that the said professional fails to do so, he or she can he held accountable for injuries caused to others since he/ she had to opportunity to do so.
Counselors are required to report information or any suspicions of child abuse. This knowledge may or may not prevent future abuse but alarms appropriate persons of potential harm and aids in assuring further investigations are made. Confidentiality can also be broken if the clients actions or verbal communication warrants the counselor to believe that he or she can potentially harm himself or someone else.
