Although it is not obligatory, the niqab (religious garment that covers every part of the skin on the face except the eyes) is worn by some Muslim women around the world. The reason why some Muslim women may choose to wear the niqab can be traced back to the “Holy book of Islam, the Qur’an”, as it encourages women to dress modestly. Benedict argued that many cultures are entirely different from one another when it comes to specific areas of culture and lifestyles. For instance, walking down the streets of Downtown Toronto, we will see a wide-range of individuals comprising of many different races, religion, and skin colour. Some of these individuals will be wearing religious attires which stand out to the general public. Hence, Benedict believed certain aspects of culture cannot simply be combined under one moral code that governs all of the human race. Under this perspective, Muslim women should not be discriminated against if they choose to wear a niqab. It is extremely unfair if an individual is allowed to dress up in their religious attires such as; turban, cross, and kippah but Muslim women cannot dress up in their religious attires. No religion is more privileged than another, every individual has a right to his or her beliefs. Therefore, the niqab should be permitted in Canada.
By prohibiting the niqab, we would be preventing some women to freely practice what they believe in. According to a news report by ABC News, a ban on the niqab would isolate Muslim women as they would not feel comfortable to even go out anymore (ABC News, Vyver, 2014). Most women who wear the niqab have been wearing it for a considerable amount of time. They do not know a life outside the religious veil.(THIS LINE IS VERY WELL PUT
