Why Did The Holocaust Start

The reason the Holocaust began was because when Hitler (I’ll talk about him later) came to power of Germany on January 30, 1933, he wanted to get rid of the Jewish people, so he and the Nazis started the assault against the Jews. It began on April 11, when they started boycotting the Jewish businesses. One week later, the Nazis dismissed Jewish people from civil services. By the end of the month, Jews were not allowed at German schools. On May 10, thousands of Nazi students and professors stormed throughout university libraries and bookstores in thirty cities throughout Germany throwing tens of thousands of books written by non-Aryans and people who were against Nazi ideas. This was to “cleanse German culture of un-Germanic writing.” Only “racial” Germans were allowed to have civil/political rights. …show more content…
Sadly people were arrested that weren’t Jewish people! Nazis also arrested Germans with African descent, Homosexuals, Gypsies, and people who were against Nazis. There was millions of people, but no one knew what to do with them, so Nazis sent them to ghettos, which were confined places for all the victims. The population of some ghettos got to be 200,000 people per square mile! The captures were sent to different camps, too. There were many camps; death, concentration, extermination, labor, prisoner-of-war, and transit camps. The prisoners would try to escape and even bribe their way out because the conditions they were living in were very bad.
