Edgar Allan Poe Edgar Allan Poe is a very widely known name throughout schools and homes around the world. Although behind all of his writings, there is a life that very few are familiar with. From his parents dying at a young age, to having the people he loved ripped from his life, Poe had a very hard time getting through life which led to his demise. He was also an alcoholic and this made him to aggressive, and some people considered him to be too hard of a critic to work for the magazines and newspapers. Although many of his works can be found in text books around the world today, this showing his incredible ability to write stories despite his hardships and alcoholism. However his mysteriousness carried on until the day he died, this day has brought about many theories about the cause of his death that none can prove. Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809, in Boston Massachusetts. Poe was one of three children (Poe Museum). His parents were both actors; their names were David Poe Junior and Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe (Kennedy 1). However both of them left the children at a very young age. His father David left him, and his mother Elizabeth died when he was only three years old. He then went to live in Richmond, Virginia with relatives. Even after being kicked out of the University of Virginia, and the Military academy, he still tried to live his dream life of being a writer.
