After the Roman Republic the Roman Empire began. When an Empire has success this means that the ideal characteristics that the leader is ruling by are succeeding. As we look further into the Roman Empire they were: the laws that the empire was run by, as well as public works and architecture. In the Roman Empire, Julius Caesar, went on to assume the title dictator, but was assassinated by the Senate for trying to serve for life. Augustus Caesar, therefore took over and became “First Citizen.” One of the first ideal characteristics of a leader(ruler) in the Roman Empire were to not call oneself “king or emperor.” Augustus did not refer to himself in this manner, and therefore continued to make changes for a more ideally run Empire. This therefore enabled the people to elect officials in charge, however some restrictions were implemented. The ideal characteristics of a leader in the Roman republic were first and foremost he had to be a male, as in this time period woman were very restricted on their rights on what they could and could not do. Next, no one was treated equally as it all depended on wealth and citizenship. However, the plebeians did manage to attain say over time, which is better than other civilizations in that time period. A famous plebeian by the name of: Cicero, attained consulship and nobility to his family. In regards to the Roman Republic, it sustained success for over 500 years. Throughout these 500 years some ideal characteristics were met by leaders in order to have the republic run smooth, while after the assassination of Julius Caesar the turning point to the Roman Republic ended and the Empire began. Additionally, in the Empire the leader(ruler) must own a value of 100,000 denarii worth of land, be categorized in the patrician class, and of held a position in public office
