Who Is A Good Leader? Essay
Organizations need leaders who are able to handle a multitude of scenarios and a variety of personalities, all the while containing the innate ability to push toward the strategic goals. Resilient leadership can be expressed as, “selfless service over time from a platform of character and competence” (Dees, 2013, p.45). Dees (2013) sums up resiliency with a passage from II Corinthians 4:8-9, “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed” (New Living Translation). For an organization to navigate the treacherous path to success that is filled with many peaks and valleys, the keys to being resilient are consistency through hardship, appropriate risk management and a commitment to moral character. However, Dees argues both, character and competence are vital in order to be an excellent leader. Having only one of these two qualities may make for a good or decent leader, but a leader with both will undoubtedly thrive.
Leadership through Tribulation
Being in a leadership position can appeal to many who desire power, status, and greatness.
