A leader must at all times act with compassion, have the noblest intentions, do the right thing, be fair, and honest. This is the method in which leaders gain trust. As an example, Dr. Martin Luther King Junior, is one of the most influential civil rights leaders who through his integrity started a movement that changed a culture and subsequently the course of history. Dr. King began his career as a religious leader within his community with deep rooted morals and values. People followed him, but more importantly they believed in him because he never diverted from nor compromised his integrity. On many occasions Dr. King consistently did what was right. He could have raised armies of hate and violence but instead organized marches and rallies, peacefully promoting equality, education and benevolence. They might say courage or honor is more so important. This argument is easily defeated by simply referring to the dictionary. According to Dictionary.com the number one definition of integrity is, “adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.” (Dictionary.com Unabridged. Random House, Inc.) Hence, integrity is the root of all moral obligation, the starting point in which leaders begin their
