One reason why the face of America is changing is because there are more mixed race marriages. The Pew Research Center stated that there has been a 12% increase of mixed race marriages in the world. Also, this same study stated that, ‘’Of the 3.6 million adults who got married in 2013, 58% of American Indians, 28% of Asians, 19% of blacks and 7% of whites have a spouse whose race was different from their own’’ (Livingston). These multiracial babies have been the result of the previously mentioned multiracial marriages. Currently, 18% of American adults are a mix of black and white. When we look at babies, however, 36% are a mix of black and white (Livingston). This shows that the number of mixed race babies is increasing. Also, in 1970, only 1% of children living with two parents were mixed race. This number has grown and, in 2013, 10% of babies living with two parents were found to be mixed race (Livingston).
