What makes a good leader by ethical and moral standards? Fidel Castro has been a figure of great controversy, especially in America, throughout his life. Some believe Castro to be the savior of Cuba while others believe him to be its downfall. There a two sides to every argument and I hope this paper will help to bring both sides into account. Fidel Castro has influenced the history of the world and American foreign policy by doing things such as overthrowing the cruel dictator Fulgencio Batista, forming the first communist country in the western hemisphere, and playing a key role in the Cuban Missile Crisis. Fidel was born August 13th, 1926 out of wedlock between Angel Castro, who was a wealthy sugar plantation owner, and Lina Ruz Gonzalez. At the time of Castro’s birth, his father was married to Maria Argota but by the time Castro was 15 he had dissolved that marriage and married Castro’s mother Lina Ruz Gonzalez (Biography.com). By the time Castro was 6, he went to live with his teacher in Santiago de Cuba and would later attend the La Salle boarding school of Santiago. After graduating in 1945, Castro attended law school at the University of Havana. During Castro’s time at the university many of his political ideologies developed and helped shaped him into the man who would later rule over Cuba. In March 1952, General Fulgencio Batista staged a military coup in Cuba and successfully overthrew the Cuban government. Batista claimed the new government was a democracy…
