Flowers for algernon
Flowers for algernon is about a mentally challenged person, Charlie who undergoes a life changing surgery that allows him to reach a very high level IQ. Charlie was the first Human subject as they tested this on a mouse named Algernon. Charlie then reflects on his life and past friendships to view how people treated him and reflect on his life. I'd liked to compare this to my own reflection time. I often think about my freshman relationships and connecting with Charlie I believe I am more mature currently then freshmen year and learn more about myself and how I am as a reader, worker, and friend. During this reflection period I concentrated on my work ethic and tried to improve it greatly.

Flowers For Algernon Essay In the story a mouse named Algernon has the procedure before charlie, the reason they did this is because if something went wrong like if it killed algernon after the procedure they would know not to try it on charlie. this kind of testing is called animal testing, it is when scientist try an experiment on animals rather than humans, because if the experiment kills the animals instead of the human’s the scientist will have less legal stuff to deal, with then if a human died, if a human died then they could be charged with murder and that’s possible prison time for everyone involved with experiment, plus if the animal died it would be less of a loss than if a human died, plus humans matter more than animals, although…

In the story Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keys, the decision to undergo the experimental surgery was an atrocious idea. In the story ,after Charlie under went the surgery, he stared to isolate himself. One a journal entry entered on May 18, since this was the height of his intelligence he has a very high vocabulary that not many people could understand. Another reason he might have been isolating himself is because many people had seen the change in him so they started to fear him, like his co workers who signed a petition so he could leave his job, so he didn’t have anyone to talk to.
