Introduction
Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, is noted for saying, “change is the only constant in life.” ( Heraclitus Quotes, 2016) This statement still has validity in today’s business and organizational behavior studies. Successful organizations seek continuous improvement and drive change due to technology innovations, competition, and a desire for growth amongst other reasons. As a result, change occurs frequently within organizations that focus and place emphasis on continuous improvement.
Change can be defined as transforming a process from the current state to a desired future state. Change can be minor or even unnoticeable in some instances. On the other hand, large-scale change can create an uncomfortable environment for those affected

As a closing statement for her article she stated, “Although leaders can’t always make people feel comfortable with change, they can minimize discomfort.” (Kanter, 2012) Minimizing discomfort is critical for organizational leaders. Change requires investments in technology, processes, and people. As a result, change management has become increasingly important to leaders, managers, and organizations as a whole. A PricewaterhouseCoopers survey of executives, found that 48% of respondents believe that change management was the biggest human resources challenge their organization faced. First, many people have criticized Lewin’s Unfreezing-Changing-Refreezing Model for being simplistic and inflexible. Critics feel that we are currently in a period of constant change that requires the flexibility to change often and quickly. Additionally, critics feel that Lewin’s model does not account for the complex changes that occur today.
