This statement expressed by Miles Halter explains that when one faces problems or challenges, the most efficient way to approach them is to tackle them head-on rather than trying to ignore them. It also explains that there comes a time in our lives when certain things become inevitable whether it be good-byes like in Miles’ case or times to move on from the past. At the time of his statement, Miles was saying his good-byes to his mother and father before moving away to Culver Creek High School.

This quote connects to my life because while growing up, I have learned that by pretending problems in our lives do not exist, nothing will be accomplished let alone improved. I have learned that when I do encounter problems, it is best that I do whatever it takes to solve them right away rather than allowing the opportunity for the problem to escalate. I can also connect to this quote because it refers to the inevitability of certain events and I myself have seen this happen to myself when transitioning from a boy to a young man, from leaving elementary school and entering high school and from family members moving away for work. Although these changes were not always sweet and quite bitter at times, they were best dealt with head-on which made the transitions take place much easier knowing that I dealt with…
