There are different aspects of life that affect an individual’s perception of health such as lifestyle choices, living conditions, socioeconomic status, or social support networks. It important to define the terms health and episodic health challenge to have a better understanding of the content of this paper. What does the word health mean? According to Reutter & Eastlick Kusher (2014), the World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” (p. 2). On the other hand, my definition of an episodic health challenge is the continues intermittence of the illness, which interrupts the process of making an individual back to their original healthy state. Health care providers should not regard patients as exclusive receivers of information; patients are human beings who are actively striving to find ways to cognitively elaborate on their situation to find hope when a challenging situation occurs. (Salander, Bergknut, & Henriksson, 2014, p. 1206). Having an episodic health challenge can be tough and learning how to cope, transition, and adapt to changes can improve a patient’s quality of life. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to analyze and appreciate the episodic health challenges of a middle age adult man who has recurrent episodes of pneumonia and recently diagnosed with lung cancer.
