think is the best but was the worst to June. Waverly was mastering and actually liked to play
chess, her mother used her as a way to give herself fame and happiness. Waverly didn’t like the
way her mother acts and had ruined Waverly’s happiness of playing chess. On the other hand,
June Woo never liked piano, but her mother had forced her to play piano anyway because her
mother thinks that if others can do it successfully, then her daughter can do it too. What her

the values of success and worth depicted in the novel because, in both cases, their mother wanted
their daughters to be successful in order to show them off to their friends, but also to give them
to have a better future. If Waverly Jong and June Woo become prodigies as an ABC, they will be
proudly viewed by others to other Asians in America as to show that not only Americans can be
the prodigy, and stop how the world was being racist. Being a prodigy in the book means
happiness to their mothers. In the mother's’ mind, happiness not only means to have a higher

income and reputation, which these can lead their children to become successful, but happiness
also means to have money, eat well, having an upscale profession and marry to a rich husband.
Happiness doesn’t mean wealth but wealth can be happiness. Once a woman is wealthy and has a
husband, they basically have the whole world. Women can buy whatever they wanted to
