In her speech at the Emmy’s, Viola Davis the first black women ever to win an Emmy said “The only thing that separates women of color from anyone is opportunity.” This quote broke the Emmy’s and motivated women of color to get notice by Hollywood. Women on the screen were never portray right compare to their male characters. Behind the screen females were hardly hire to direct or write the script. Female actress aren’t recognize, female directors and writers had a hard time trying to be hire, and women of color are very limited to their roles.

Seventy-seven percent of female characters were white and fifteen percent were African-American women. The lowest were Latina being three percent and Asian females with four percent. Other race were the one percent. The Emmy’s are a huge thing for the television industry but this award show is not popular with non-white female actress. Looking at the Emmy’s nominations for every year most white females take the award but Viola Davis changed that. In 2015, Davis was nominated for best actress for her television show: How to Get Away with Murder. She was the first African American to win an Emmy. During the year of 2014 and 2015 we were presented some of the best television shows that didn't have an all-white cast. These shows were: Empire, Fresh Off the Boat, Jane the Virgin, and Black-ish. These four television shows had a Latino, African American, and Asians as their cast members. If these women of color take charge of the room they could easily remove the stereotypical racist stereos of television and show how powerful they can be.
Women in television have a hard time trying to prove Hollywood they deserve the same rights as their male co-workers. Especially female directors and producers who try to take control of the room but only to be ignore because of their gender.
