Vinegar Dilute and Impure Acetic Acid or better known as vinegar is a compound formed by the chemical reaction of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. The composition of vinegar is acetic acid (C2H4O2) and water. Also, the formula for this compound is CH3COOH. These elements are nonmetals,so the type of bond that this substance made is covalent. Vinegar has many kind of properties and utilization in several ways. For example, it can be use for food preparation, cleaning and health. When added in water it makes an acid solution, and its state of matter is liquid. Some of the properties of this compound include pH, density and the boiling point. The pH for it, depends in how much acid is on the substance, but most of the commercial vinegars contain 5% acetic acid and have a pH of 2.4. Also, for a typical commercial vinegar the density, or mass per volume, is about 1.01 grams per milliliter. Indeed, for the same type of vinegar cited above, the boiling point can be estimated about 100.6 degrees Celsius. …show more content…
Basically, sodium acetate is the reaction between vinegar and baking soda. Baking soda, or also know as sodium bicarbonate is a white powder made by one sodium atom. It commonly used for antacid and cooking, as an leavening agent. When the chemical reaction occurs the products made by these two substances are sodium acetate, carbon dioxide and water.
The type of reaction formed by these compounds is a double replacement. The reason why it is a double replacement is because there are two reactants which made two new products. Also, one evidence of chemical changes for this reaction is that when baking soda is added in vinegar, the substance starts bubbling, which means there is a formation of gas. Another evidence that it could be considerate is that when the sodium acetate is used in a cold place, it freezes instantaneously, wherefore there is a temperature
