LAN stands for Local Area Network. LAN is a network that connects a group of computers within a building like a home, office or a school. For LANS to connect together and share information within computers, Ethernet is most commonly used. LAN does not need cables to connect to the different devices (e.g printers) however radio waves can be used to communicate.
Difference between client-server and peer to peer network:
Client Server
Peer to Peer
Resources can be removed at any time
Resources are not removed from the network until they are no longer being requested
The storage and bandwidth has to be provided by the host
Storage and bandwidth are distributed and provided by the network.
The data is stored in a centralized server.
Each peer has its own data.
Client-Server is …show more content…
This is because LAN computers constantly back up each other, enabling it to process real-time data and other applications. However, a stand-alone system constantly has backup failures resulting in a loss of data.
IP Addressing:
IP stands for internet protocol. They are the rules to send information between devices on the internet
Most computers on the Internet use TCP/IP protocol to communicate and exchange information on the network. It helps traffic flow between computers since each computer has its own IP address.
In the TCP/IP protocol, the unique identifier for a computer is called an IP address. The IP address is used to find one or more devices on the Internet. It is almost like a mail address.
The IP address is written in binary
The IP address of a person browsing across the world wide web is known to the server of the web site.
Static IP addresses is when the computer has the same IP address for a very long time.
A dynamic IP address is when the computers change their IP time to time constantly
There are 2 different versions if the Internet Protocol being used. IP Version 4 (IPv4) and IP Version 6
