Understanding security and understanding the causes of conflict is important because the effects can not only be global issue, but some conflict could be avoidable and or easily resolved. Understanding the causes of conflicts can give security specialist and idea of how to resolve such conflicts. For example, if we know that a cause of a particular conflict is a border dispute then, we should be able to know how to fix it. Interstate conflict is a dispute between two or more states, like many wars that we see today.
The Kargil war is an interstate border dispute between India and Pakistan between May and July of 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir. The ultimate goal of both parties is to eventually own the entire land of Kashmir. Kashmir is a mountain region that borders India, Pakistan and China. The part of the land in dispute between India and Pakistan is the area separated from Pakistan close to the LOC, also known as the Line of control. The line of Control is not a legitimate boundary, but it is known between Pakistan and India to never cross it with bad intension. In order to understand the situation in Kargil, it is necessary to understand the combative history of the two countries.
The dispute over this region originated when the British colony of India gained its independence in 1947. The state of Jammu and Kashmir, had a predominantly Muslim population but a Hindu leader, shared borders with both India and West Pakistan. The argument over which nation would…
