In recent years, the Asian American population has been growing rapidly and now about six percent of the American population (Sue & Sue, 2016, p. 502). This population has been stereotyped to be a minority group that became very successful in society and known to be highly intelligent, enterprising, and disciplined. Due to being known for high success, Asian parents discipline their children to strive for family expectations and not partake in negative behaviors that could dishonor the family and display little concern for the child’s interests.
