“Huh? Oh yeah, sure.” Trent hadn’t had much of an appetite since coming home. Being in the war for two years had done a number on his stomach. The images that were flooding through his mind made it difficult to digest anything. The doctors told Sally not to worry too much about her son. The other boys that had come home were having similar challenges, but it would certainly pass.
“Janie is coming over in an hour,” Sally said as she gently placed a blue sandwich before him. There was lettuce on it to, which Trent thought he might have to pick off.
“Thanks,” Trent replied. He wasn’t a big fan of blue sandwiches either. They consisted of a meat-like substance made of vegetables and blue corn protein - hence the purple-bluish color. Taking a small bite, he was determined to please his mother by showing her that he was eating. He had only been home 3 days, and already he had managed to make some slight progress in the food department.
