They include, Knox Overstreet, Charlie Dalton, Richard Cameron, Steven Meeks, and Gerard Pitts. The boys don’t really know how to react to Mr. Keating 's lesson for the day, comments were being thrown around like “that was weird” to “neat”. The following day, Mr. Keating starts his class the same way any other teacher would, by having Neil read aloud the introduction to the poetry textbook. The book describes “how to rate the quality of poetry according to mathematical plotting” makes sense, right? Mr. Keating doesn’t think so, he has every student rip out the beginning of the book because he thinks that it teaches the kids to conform. Keating has a variety of teaching styles up his sleeve. One day Mr. Keating has the boys stand on his desk so that they can “see the world from his point of view”. Another day brings another strange lesson that has the boys kicking soccer ball while shouting poetry quotes, why does he do this? Mr. Keating’s one sole mission seems to be to teach the boys about earning their freedom and not conforming to what they think is right. But what effect do these teachings have on the boys of Mr. Keating 's class? Well during their off time the boys did some digging on Mr. Keating. They find out that he was also a graduate of Welton and that he was in a club famously called the Dead Poets Society, shocker right?
