When God spoke for the first time, energy called light, illuminated the cosmos. Darkness fled as God expressed his will through the spoken Word. The entering in of His Word brought forth light. Therefore, we conclude that everything in the universe exists because of the Word of God. The written word of God first appeared at Mount Sinai. God himself wrote with His finger upon tables of stone. The stone, however, was not God?s first choice of where to put His Word. His first choice was to speak it directly into the hearts of His covenant people, Israel. God?s will was to have a people who possessed His Word in their hearts. However, as Sinai shook with the power of God speaking, Israel stood afar off. Moses was the only one at that time who drew near to where God was. On the top of that desert mountain, God gave Moses His Word. He gave him commandments, ordinances, and patterns by which to live. This began the relationship of God with men through His written word. God began to move on men to pen His Word, to record the uniqueness and realness of God as He spoke. God revealed His desire to be a personal, covenant God repeatedly as He spoke His word to the heart of men. Within the…
