Latin American women suffer less gender discrimination then that of others around the world. These include civil liberties, ownership rights, and physical integrity. On the other hand, violence against women is higher in Latin America then the rest of the world. Many of the women’s movements are separated by social class in a way that they have different goals and needs. Latin Movements are different from other movements because they have different interest in class, gender and race. All movements also differ in the reproductive rights movements with some being for and some against abortion. Although most movements differ in many ways they are all looking for equality and change.
2 The Massacre of Tlatelolco occurred the night of October 2, 1968 when over ten thousands of students gathered to demand change with the corruptive government. These women demanded human rights. A protest of mothers can represent a threat to dictatorship because they take their traditional roles of mother as a form of mechanism to protest. They will try and defend their children even if it means they have to take other means of defense. These women didn’t care to put their lives at risk all they wanted was their children back home. The women even learned to deal with the attacks of dogs and tear gas. They didn’t care if people thought they were crazy, they would still meet with their groups and wore white head scarfs. Eventually the Madres transformed themselves rom a group of housewives to a well known internationally organization. Evoking one’s motherhood has power as a political force because these mothers will not rest until they get answers. They will fight until they feel they have won and they will not go defeated. I don’t think that events from the past be forgotten because these movements were the reason we have had some moderate changes in human rights. I think that we will always have conflict no matter what. Even thought we still suffer from a corruptive government many of ours rights have been conceived. Movements like these are always going to be remembered because issues like these are the ones that makes us get up and participate in social and political changes. People
